Effectiveness of Using an Electromagnetic Tube Placement Device for Placement of Bedside Small Bowel Feeding

چکیده
Early and adequate nutritional support is crucial in the care of bum patients. There 11 have been described in literature many different methods for and technology to aid in the placement of small bowel feeding tubes that are used to provide the needed enteral nutrition. The purpose of this study was to determine if using an electromagnetic tube placement device (ETPD) was an effective way to place blind (without aid of fluoroscopy and endoscopy) bedside small bowel feeding tubes in a regional bum center. After IRB approval, quality improvement (QI) data that had been collected on bum patients who required small bowel feeding tube placement at a regional bum center before (control) and after (trial) the implementation of using an ETPD device for placement of small bowel feeding tubes, July-December 2006 and all of2007, were

Bedside method for placing small bowel feeding tubes in critically ill patients. A prospective study.
Enteral delivery of nutrients is important for optimal treatment of critically ill patients. It maintains gut digestive and barrier functions, decreases gut bacterial translocation, decreases the incidence of sepsis, and improves outcome. Gastric emptying is impaired in many critically ill patients and feeding into a gastroparetic stomach leads to large gastric residuals and aspiration. We desc...

BACKGROUND Gastroparesis is common in surgical patients and frequently leads to the need for enteral tube feeding. Nasoenteral feeding tubes are usually placed endoscopically by gastroenterologists, but this procedure is relatively cumbersome for patients and labor-intensive for hospital staff. Electromagnetic (EM) guided bedside placement of nasoenteral feeding tubes by nurses may reduce patie...

OBJECTIVES Initiation of postpyloric feeding is often delayed by difficulties in placement of enteral tubes. We evaluated the effectiveness of bedside postpyloric enteral tube (PET) placement using an electromagnetic (EM)-guided device. We hypothesized that: 1) EM-guided placement of PETs would be successful more often than standard blind placement with a shorter total time to successful placem...

Myasthenia gravis (MG) is an autoimmune disease resulting in destruction of the post-synaptic nicotinic receptors at the neuromuscular junction. Classically, the earliest symptoms of MG are ocular, including ptosis and diplopia. Other less common early symptoms include dysphagia and fatigable chewing. Our case report describes the unusual presentation of MG in a teenager patient and presented f...
